Saddle Fitting Appointment information

There are three Saddle Fitting options you can choose from:

Online Saddle fitting discussion and advisory service.
Saddle Fitting existing saddle, for all types and brands of saddles.
Saddle Fitting for selecting you a new saddle (new/secondhand).

There are three location choices:

Online via Zoom (https://us04web.zoom.us/)
Saddle Fitting at your premises.
Saddle Fitting at Sam’s (Ryecroft, Ryefield Lane, Holbeach Fen, Lincolnshire, PE12 8PS).

Travel charges
Travel is charged at 45 pence per mile both ways. If there is more than one booking at one yard the travel is shared.

Online Saddle Fitting Discussion and Advisory Service
When you book online you will receive online location details in the confirmation notification email. After scheduling you can join the meeting on your phone, PC, Laptop etc with one easy click on the Zoom meeting URL at the specified time and date of the appointment and connect with Sam to discuss any concerns.

Saddle Fitting existing saddle, for all types and brands of saddles.
Saddle Fitting Consultation

Notes will be taken and any concerns you have can be discussed.
Your horse will be assessed, and a template taken of his or her back.
Your existing saddle will be checked over and then put onto your horse and assessed.
If your saddle appears to fit while your horse is standing you will be required to ride in the saddle to assess whether the saddle still fits in movement (walk, trot and canter). There are situations where this isn’t possible ie the horse is just about to be backed, this can be discussed.

Your saddle may require rebalancing or further work maybe required. Re-balancing, regulating of serge panels, flocking top up, adjusting saddle width can all be done on site.

Saddle Fitting for selecting you a new saddle (new/secondhand).

Brand New Saddles – I can bring brand new saddles for you to try of the following brands:

Arena Saddles (GP, Dressage, Jumping)
Bates Saddles (GP, Dressage and Jump available soon)
Cavaletti Saddles (GP and Show. Dressage and Jump available to order)
Fylde Saddles (Samantha)
Sam Jamieson Saddles (GP, Dressage, Jumping, VSD. Show and Working Hunter available to order)
Wintec Saddles (GP. All other types available to order)

The demo saddles are in brackets above and generally 17.5″ but can order all types available from that brand. I also have stockist accounts with Ideal Saddles, Jeffries Saddles and Winners Circle which I can take orders for but don’t have any demo stock to try. please be aware all brand new saddles are not kept on site, therefore please allow at least 2 days in-between booking your appointment.

Secondhand Saddles – I have a close relationship with Tackaholics www.tackaholics.net where my Clients can collect secondhand saddles from them then book an appointment with me to check the fit of the saddles. This gives you the chance to try brand new and secondhand saddles. The fee paid to me is for the Consultation and allocated time whether a saddle is purchased or not. There is the odd occasion where none of the saddles are a good fit, please bear this in mind there is no guarantee.

For this option please advise me as best you can the following:
Colour.
Type of Saddle (GP, Dressage, Jump, Working Hunter).
Width of saddle (Medium wide).
Length of Saddle (17.5″).
Type of horse.

Please note. If you are happy to try all colours this gives more options.

Saddle Fitting Consultation

Notes will be taken and any concerns you have can be discussed.

Your existing saddle can be checked over and then put onto your horse and assessed if you have one aswell as other saddles you are interested in.
If the saddles appear to fit while your horse is standing you will be required to ride in the saddles to assess whether the saddle still fits in movement (walk, trot and canter). There are situations where this isn’t possible ie the horse is just about to be backed, this can be discussed.
The chosen saddle may require rebalancing or further work maybe required, this is billable as additional work is not included in the saddle price. Re-balancing, regulating of serge panels, flocking top up, adjusting adjustable saddles can all be done on site.

Further information
If a total reflock is required we will need to book an appointment for the total reflock to be done at a later time as this needs to be completed in my workshop. Then another appointment booked for me to come out and the saddle to be refitted to your horse.

If alterations are required you may need to ride in your saddle more than twice therefore please ensure you have all your tack that you need, riding hat to the current safety standard and safe riding boots.

Photos/Videos: Photos and/or videos will be taken during the appointment for records. At a later date also used for education, please state in the notes if you do not want the collected data to be used/published.

Please note: Any alterations ie if the saddle requires rebalancing, flocking regulation, flocking added there will be a charge for this additional work.

Saddle Fitting cost Guidelines:
£60 – Saddle Fitting/check/assessment for one horse and one saddle (time allocated 1hr).
£15 – Additional charge for each additional saddle.
£15 to £20 – Extra flocking added for rebalancing saddle (price depends on amount of flocking added).
£15 – For installing Cair inserts front or back.
£5 – Change of gullet bar.
£15 – Saddle Width adjustment (on machine).
45 pence per mile – Travel is calculated to and from your appointment, if more than one appointment this is shared.

Yard Visit Discount:
£5 discount – If two or more Saddle Fitting appointments are booked each appointment is discounted £5.
£10 discount – If five or more Saddle Fitting appointments are booked each appointment is discounted £10.
This will be calculated on your invoice.

Workshop cost Guidelines:
£100-£130 – Total reflock/Service; this covers saddle being taken apart, old flocking and stitching removed, checking inside the saddle for any damage or wear, re-stitching saddle, new flocking added and includes materials (takes up to 3hrs; this should be done every 2 years).
£30 – Saddle Fitting/check/assessment when returning with saddle that has just had a total reflock done.
£100-£130 – FLAIR to flock conversion.
£32 – Replacing front CAIR Air bag (Wintec).
£32 – Replacing Back CAIR Air bag (Wintec).
£25 – Adjusting saddle width to template with machine.
£20 – Short girth strap replacement.
£25 – Long girth strap replacement.
£2.50 – Additional if girth straps are rivetted onto webbing.

If girth straps are riveted onto the tree directly this will incur an additional cost.

Other repairs considered and discussed, minimum charge £20.

Saddles taken for sale on behalf of client, 10% commission of sold value as agreed.

IMPORTANT: Scientific research recommendations are that saddle fit must be checked every 3 months. This does not mean literally that just the saddle is looked at but the rider and horse as a whole combination due to the amount of complex factors.

PLEASE NOTE: At the end of your Saddle Fitting a signature will be required to sign off the appointment, this allows you to have a look at what has been written on the form and includes the following paragraph’s for you to agree which have been approved by a Solicitor:

‘Thank you for your order to check your horse and its saddle, and if necessary, delivery of a new saddle.

We have done our very best to fit your (old or new) saddle on your horse. However, remember that the flocking in your new saddle will settle and also that your horse can change shape over time. The season, age, training method, injuries or even just a change of livery yard can be of influence on the development of your horse. That is why we advise that you check your horse regularly for pain, discomfort, weight and to have your horse and saddle checked preferably at least twice a year. This can help you and your horse to ride in happiness.

When you bought a new saddle or when your old saddle has been completely reflocked, it needs to be checked and balanced after 2-6 weeks, depending on the situation, the type and conformation of the horse and how intensive you will use your saddle. Your flock will settle down and needs rebalancing. You need to make an appointment in time yourself.

Every horse and situation is unique; don’t use your saddle on a different horse unless your saddle fitter checked and advised on this.
